Street Outreach

Outreach and Detached Youth Work provides community and individual youth services directly to the source whether it is at homes, schools or on the streets. This level of support provides youth with an informal and social support network straight to those who are in need regardless of their geographical, educational or developmental status. Being able to interact with these individuals on their level and in the comfort of their own familiar environments allows us to better connect with them and to allow them the confidence to speak up and voice their concerns. Our detached youth workers will assess what types of outreach and support programs are required based on the situation in each particular area depending on the level of support required. These outreach and detached youth services are not centralised in any establishment or have set timeframes and can take place in any community location, outside of business hours and from late night to the early morning.

A failure in communication is a cause for many conflicts and at the same time communication is needed to resolve those conflicts. Our experienced outreach support team and mentors are specialised in conflict intervention and resolution by discussing issues on the level of the individuals, in their common environment. We are able to mediate arguments or disagreements with patience, understanding and empathy for those involved while helping them to understand the cause of the conflict, how it can be resolved and potential consequences for their actions. After the conflict is resolved, our outreach team will have developed a positive and supporting relationship with the individuals to help build a stronger community and support structure for those around them.

Being proactive and identifying factors that could have a negative effect on a child growing up in a particular family or community could lead to help prevent them from growing up in a troubled or abused environment. From an early age children absorb their surroundings and the people they grow up with and these interactions will have a lasting effect on their lives and the personality they develop over the years. If these surroundings are abusive and there are no positive role models in their lives, it will lead to developmental problems with their mental state, confidence and empathy toward others.

Our prevention and early intervention programs work hand-in-hand to offer the most suitable services for children and young adults that may be living in a home or community that presents evident risk factors that would encourage a troubled upbringing. The level of intervention and early prevention will differ from case to case and we can assess what is required for specific situations whether a general supervision is the best option all the way up to selective case management and mentoring.

You see you wouldn't ask why the rose that grew from the concrete had damaged petals. On the contrary, we would all celebrate its tenacity. We would all love it's will to reach the sun. Well, we are the rose - this is the concrete - and these are my damaged petals. Don't ask me why, ask me how!
